The
system
firmware
is
contained
in
two
separate
images
in
the
flash
memory
of
the
blade
server:
temporary
and
permanent.
These
images
are
referred
to
as
T
E
MP
and
P
E
RM,
respectively.
The
system
normally
starts
from
the
T
E
MP
image,
and
the
P
E
RM
image
serves
as
a
backup.
If
the
T
E
MP
image
becomes
damaged,
such
as
from
a
power
failure
during
a
flash
update,
you
can
recover
the
T
E
MP
image
from
the
P
E
RM
image.
If
the
T
E
MP
image
becomes
damaged,
you
can
see
one
of
two
symptoms:
v
The
system
automatically
starts
from
the
P
E
RM
image.
To
check
whether
the
system
has
started
from
the
P
E
RM
image,
enter:
cat
/proc/device-tree/openprom/ibm,fw-bank
A
P
is
returned.
v
The
system
hangs
or
is
non-responsive
after
the
system
is
started
with
no
checkpoints.

force
the
system
to
start
the

image,
complete
the
following
steps:

Turn
off
the
blade
server.
2.
Restart
the
blade
system
management
processor
from
the
Management
Module.

Turn
on
the
blade
server.

ote:
If
the
blade
server
does
not
restart,
you
must
replace
the
system-board
assembly.
Contact
a
service
support
representative
for
assistance.

To
recover
the
T
E
MP
image
from
the
P
E
RM
image,
you
must
perform
the
re
j
ect
function.
The
re
j
ect
function
copies
the
P
E
RM
image
into
the
T
E
MP
image.
To
perform
the
re
j
ect
function,
complete
the
following
steps:
1
.
Re
j
ect
the
T
E
MP
image.
Using
the
Linux
operating
system,
type
the
following
command:
update_flash
-r
2.
Shut
down
the
blade
server
using
the
operating
system.
3
.
Restart
the
blade
system
management
processor
from
the
Management
Module.
4.
Turn
on
the
blade
server.
You
might
need
to
update
the
firmware
code
to
the
latest
version.
