TAP ports
You can configure the 10G Network Active Bypass unit to passively monitor network traffic (one
directional, bidirectional, single, and aggregated port traffic) and mirror that data to a monitoring port
without interfering with the data stream. The 10G Network Active Bypass unit is capable of mirroring
single-port or aggregated multi-port traffic to a TAP port.
The TAP ports function as an access port for the 10G Network Active Bypass unit as it collects inline
data. From either the management interface or the command line, you can specify which TAP port the
10G Network Active Bypass unit uses and the direction of the traffic.
Important:
The 10G Network Active Bypass unit provides seven functioning TAP ports (1 through 7).
TAP port 8 is not available for use.
Table 3. TAP port settings
Setting
Description
Disabled
The port traffic is not mirrored in this mode.
TX
The port mirrors the transmitting traffic to the
user-defined TAP port.
RX
The port mirrors the receiving traffic to the user-defined
TAP port.
RX/TX
The port mirrors both the receiving traffic and the
transmitting traffic to the user-defined TAP port.
Power failure protection
You can program the 10G Network Active Bypass unit to open a network link to maintain the flow of
traffic in case of a power loss, or to close the network link so that no traffic flows through the Network
IPS appliance.
The 10G Network Active Bypass unit provides two redundant power supplies to minimize the loss of
power. The 10G Network Active Bypass unit continuously monitors the power supply voltage to detect
any instance of a power decline or an outage. If a power failure is detected, the power failure protection
operation is triggered, which initiates a switch to bypass mode. During this no power state, the network
ports connect to create a passive bypass path without any traffic interruption between port N1 and port
N2.
Table 4. Fail modes
Mode
Description
Open (default)
The flow of traffic remains uninterrupted.
Close
If the 10G Network Active Bypass unit switches to
bypass mode, the flow of traffic is interrupted for the
network ports. The 10G Network Active Bypass unit
resumes traffic when the system is in active mode.
