4.2.1 Fan and gas valve removal instructions
1.
turn off electric power at the disconnect switch, and gas supply at the gas
control valve to the boiler.
2.
ensure boiler cools down to ambient temperature. do not drain the boiler
unless freezing conditions are expected during this procedure.
3.
remove front cover, then remove boiler upper-front cover by removing the
two yellow thumbscrews at the top right and left corner of the boiler. no tools
are required.
4.
a ladder or step may be required to have a clear vertical view of the work
area. do not attempt to reach from the front without a clear view, as damage
to connectors, screws or refractory may occur.
5.
unplug both upper and lower electrical connectors from the fan.
6.
unplug the electrical connector from the gas valve by removing the 1/4”
connector attaching screw.
7.
Position the harnesses out of the way of the heat exchanger lid.
8.
unplug the clear tube from the pressure reference port. remove the snorkel
assembly from the Venturi - gas Valve assembly. the snorkel can be
separated into 2 parts. the horizontal pipe can come out of the 2nd 90’
elbow from the gas valve.
9.
Disconnect the flex gas line from the gas valve assembly at the flex
connector’s flair nut.
10.
With the flexible gas line disconnected, remove the 2 Torx self tapping
screws connecting the Venturi – gas Valve assembly to the adapter Plate.
Care should be taken to protect the cork gasket between the Venturi and
adaptor Plate, this will be reused if undamaged.
11.
remove the 3 torx self tapping screws connecting the adaptor plate to the
fan and carefully remove the adaptor plate and gasket.
12.
remove the 4 hex nuts that attach the fan to the heat exchanger lid. a 10
mm open end wrench or socket will be required.
13.
remove the fan by pulling straight up ensuring that no wires are caught.
Place the removed components in a clean, dry area.
4.2.2 Fan and gas valve re-installation
1.
Place the fan gasket on the heat exchanger and place the fan onto the 4
studs. the fan motor must be facing toward the back of the boiler.
2.
install the 4 hex nuts and tighten evenly using a 10mm open end wrench.
3.
orient the adapter plate so the reference line port is positioned at the lower
left, and attach using the 3 torx self tapping screws (use the 3 large holes in
the fan housing); remember to install the rubber gasket.
4.
install the Venturi / gas Valve assembly to the adapter plate using 2 torx
self-tapping screws; remember to install the cork gasket.
5.
Re-connect the flexible gas line to the gas valve. Ensure the flexible gas line
does not twist while tightening the flair nut. IMPORTANT: Open up the gas
control valve and test all connections to ensure there are no gas leaks.
6.
re-plug both upper and lower fan harness connectors.
7.
re-attach the clear tube to the pressure reference port. re-attach the
snorkel to the Venturi – gas Valve assembly.
8.
re-attach the electrical connector to the gas valve.
9.
open up gas control valve and check for possible leaks.
10.
return electric power to the boiler and perform start up routine.
11.
Check for gas or fumes leaks after 10 minutes of continuous operation.
