6. Use the knob (D) to adjust the distance between the
2 electrodes to 6 mm.
Note: 6 mm is 6 marks on the scale.
7. Pull the starter rope handle.
8. Do 1 of the steps that follow.
a) If a spark occurs between the electrodes on the
ignition tester, replace the spark plug.
b) If there is no spark between the electrodes on
the ignition tester, do a test of the ignition
module. Refer to
To examine the ignition module
on page 31.
6.7.4 To examine the ignition module
1. Remove the engine cover.
2. Remove the 3 nuts that hold the flywheel housing.
3. Remove the flywheel housing.
4. Examine the connections for damage, dirt and
corrosion.
5. Examine the cables for damage.
6. Connect a multimeter between point (A) and point
(B) and measure the resistance. For the correct
value, refer to Standard dimensions and wear limits
on page 45. If the measured values are not correct,
replace the ignition module.

7. Connect a multimeter between point (C) and point
(A) and measure the resistance. For the correct
value, refer to Standard dimensions and wear limits
on page 45. If the measured values are not correct,
replace the ignition module.
8. Examine the distance between the flywheel magnet
and the ignition module with the air gap gauge. For
the correct value, refer to
Standard dimensions and
wear limits on page 45. If the measured values are
not correct, replace the ignition module.
9. If it is necessary, loosen the screws and adjust the
ignition module until the distance is correct. Tighten
the screws with the correct torque. Refer to
Tightening torques on page 45.
10. Remove the air gap gauge.
11. Do a spark test. Refer to
To do a spark test on page
30. If there is no spark, replace the ignition module.
6.8 Fuel tank
6.8.1 To drain the fuel tank
1. Put a container below the fuel tank.
2. Remove the fuel tank cap.
3. Push the hose clips on the fuel hose against the
carburetor.
4. Remove the fuel hose from the carburetor.
