GEAR HOUSING – PRIMARY SHAFT
5
8
Function
The gear housing contains a transmission that reduces the high speed of the
electric motor to a lower speed on the spindle shaft. Transmission is based on
three shafts: primary shaft (A), intermediate shaft (B) and spindle shaft (C).
The electric motor powers the top gear wheel on the primary shaft. This gear
wheel has a slip clutch to the intermediate shaft to protect the operator and the
gear box in the event of jamming.
The transmission has three gear selection positions that are controlled by the
knob (D). Change gear when the motor is idle.
Service work
The work sequence is that the complete primary shaft (A) is removed first
followed by the intermediate shaft (B), although after the upper gear wheel on
the spindle shaft (C) has been removed.
Note: In order to remove the spindle shaft, you do not need to remove the
primary and intermediate shafts. See the “Spindle shaft” chapter.
Dismantling – primary shaft
Remove the oil pipe
First lift up the angled nipple.
Then lift the oil pipe straight up from
the control at the nipple. Then turn the
oil pipe so that it runs free from the gear
wheel at the bottom of the shaft and lift
out the oil pipe.

Dismantle the primary shaft
Use a standard puller and place the claws
under the top gear wheel.
Create a counterhold by placing a pair
of wooden strips on the gear housing
and make a bridge in between with, for
example, a cold chisel. Pull the shaft up
using the puller.
Lift up the complete slip clutch.
