Storage module warnings and cautions
WARNING:
To reduce the risk of shock or injury from high-current electrical energy, do not
remove the storage module access panel, and then install the storage module into the frame.
WARNING:
To reduce the risk of personal injury from hot surfaces, allow the drives and the
internal system components to cool before touching them.
CAUTION:
Do not operate the storage module with the access panel removed. Operating the
storage module in this manner results in improper airflow and improper cooling that can lead to
thermal damage.
CAUTION:
When performing non-hot-plug operations, you must power down the storage
module and/or the system. However, it might be necessary to leave the storage module
powered up when performing other operations, such as hot-plug installations or
troubleshooting.
Storage module preparation
Servicing internal storage module components
To service any internal D3940 storage module component, remove the D3940 storage module. For more
information, see "Removing the Synergy D3940 storage module enclosure (on page

Avoiding equipment damage and data loss
To avoid possible equipment damage and data loss when removing the access panel on the D3940
storage module, remove the following components and store them in a static-free environment.

1.
Identify the proper D3940 storage module.
2.
Create a backup of OneView.
3.
Power down all associated compute modules.
4.
Confirm the D3940 Storage Module power LED is off.
