Before Logging In the First Time
If y our Mo del 742i system do es not ha v e a hard disk attached, or if it has a le
system disk, and y ou w an t it to b e a cluster clien t no de (cno de), refer to the
man ual Managing Clusters of HP-UX Computers for instructions on setting up
clusters and cno des.
This c hapter reviews some initial pro cedures and pro vides information on using
b oth HP VUE sessions and HP-UX. F or more detailed information ab out using
HP VUE after login, see the HP VUE User's Guide .
When y ou turn on y our Mo del 742i to complete the installation pro cess, y ou
will b e asked for the following information. If y ou do not ha v e this information
readily a v ailable, simply press 4 Return 5 after the questions, and y ou can supply
this information later:
The time zone where y our system is lo cated.
The host name for y our system; an y alphan umeric, single-word name with
eigh t or few er c haracters.
The net w ork address n um b er, also called an IP n um b er, for y our system.
This consists of four address elds separated b y p erio ds: for example,
255.32.3.10 . Y ou may need to consult with y our system administrator for
this information. Or, if y our host name and IP n um b er ha v e already b een
assigned, y ou can nd out the host name, after b o ot, b y en tering uname -a .
If y ou kno w y our host name, y ou can nd out y our IP n um b er b y en tering
nslookup host name , at the system prompt.
If y ou can't supply this information at b o ot time, y ou can congure it in to the
system later, after logging in, b y en tering the command set_parms , as root .
Y ou can then en ter the information at the prompts.
