command.

where devic e p ath is a designator for the path to the device that con tains a
b o otable le system.
Searching for Bootable Media
The initial searc h conducted b y the b o ot console user in terface lo cates devices
that might con tain b o otable media. This searc h might nd a DDS-format tap e
driv e whic h actually do es not con tain a b o otable tap e. T o c hec k to see whic h
devices actually con tain b o otable media, t yp e the following at the BOOT_ADMIN>
prompt:
search 4 Return 5
This causes y our system to searc h exhaustively for b o otable media. It searc hes
all t yp es of I/O devices in the follo wing order:
1. Built-in SCSI.
2. Built-in LAN.
3. VME bac kplane net w ork.
The searc h may turn up more devices than there are lines on y our display . If
y ou are using a text terminal, y ou may con trol the progress of the searc h from
y our terminal's k eyb oard b y p erforming one or more of the following steps:
T o hold the display temp orarily , press 4
CTRL
5-4
S
5.
T o con tinue the display , press 4 CTRL 5-4 Q 5.
T o halt the searc h, press 4 ESC 5.
These o w-con trol commands do not w ork with a bitmapp ed display , but suc h
a display can sho w more than forty lines of text, so y ou are unlik ely to need
them.
Using the Boot ROM B-7
