Online Sources of Information
HP-UX is designed so that y ou can access man y sources of information without
leaving y our system. Some of these information sources are a v ailable through a
shell command line.
Man P ages: The information on HP-UX whic h is found in HP-UX R efer enc e
is also on line and accessible b y clic king on the T o olb o x button at the right
of y our F ron t P anel, or b y en tering on a command line man c ommand , where
c ommand is the name of the HP-UX command y ou w an t to get information
on. If y ou're not sure of the command name y ou can en ter man -k keywor d ,
where keywor d is a likely topic w ord to searc h on. This will result in a
display listing commands ha ving the k eyw ord in their description.
There are also a v ariety of les on y our HP-UX system whic h con tain
v ersion-sp ecic information whic h will b e useful in administering and
conguring cards and devices for y our v ersion of HP-UX. Among these are the
following:
Release Notes: This is the online v ersion of the Release Notes whic h came
with y our system. It con tains all the late information, undo cumen ted
c hanges and bug xes for y our release of HP-UX. Release Notes is found in
the /etc/newconfig directory , and may b e named b y its release n um b er,
e.g., 90RelNotes , for HP-UX 9.0.
T erminfo: The directory /usr/lib/terminfo con tains sub directories
con taining information ab out terminal congurations, indexed b y the
rst c haracter of the terminal name. F or example, to nd conguration
information ab out the hp98546, y ou can lo ok in /usr/lib/terminfo/h for a
listing of information les for all the terminal names b eginning with \h".
These lenames also constitute all the acceptable argumen ts for setting the
TERM v ariable, in case y ou are using a non-default terminal conguration.
