The Defrost Timer runs all the time that the fridge thermostat is closed.  Whilst the defrost timer switch is in the  Run position (1-4) 
the compressor will run, cooling the cabinet.  When the Defrost Timer switches to the Defrost position (1-2) the compressor 
will stop. If the Defrost Thermostat is open (freezer temperature warmer than -22 C) the Heater will not be powered and the Timer 
will continue to run and the switch sequence will revert to 1-4 powering the compressor.  The Neutral supply to the Timer is 
provided by the low resistance path of the Heater circuit.  
This sequence will continue until the freezer temperature is lower than -22 C.   See 2nd phase.

When the freezer temperature is lower than -22 C and the Timer switches to Defrost (1-2) the Defrost Heater is powered to start 
the defrost of the evaporator and the compressor stops.  The Timer stops because its Neutral terminal (3) is now the same 
potential as its Live terminal (1). 
When the freezer thermostat opens because the evaporator temperature has risen to +16 C,  the Heater is turned off and the Neutral 
supply is returned to the Timer.  
The Timer then continues its run sequence from (1-2) to (1-4) to power the compressor and cool the cabinet.  If at any time the 
fridge thermostat opens (selected temperature reached) the whole sequence is paused until the fridge temperature rises to close 
the Fridge thermostat again.    Temperatures stated are approximate.
