BECOME FAMILIAR WITH YOUR WINCH
Your winch is a powerful machine. It is important that you understand the basics of their operation and the
specifications so that you can operate the machine optimally and safely. You should practice using your winch
before a situation occurs where you need to use the machine.
We strongly recommend that you take a course on winches before using it. This is fun and the know-how
gained extends the life of your winch. The most important thing, however, is to handle the winch safely. Never
underestimate the immense power of this machine.
If you do not choose a course, let your specialist retailer instruct you and also carry the manual.
1.
These winches develops the maximum traction on the lowest rope row.
2.
Engine: Your engine is powered by a 12/24 volt battery and transfers power to the gearbox. The gearbox
then turns the drum and winds up the rope.
3. Winch drum: The winch drum is a cylinder on which the rope is wrapped. It can wrap and unwrap the rope.
At the same time, it serves as a drum brake. The drum brake is located inside the drum.
4.
Rope: Your winch has a synthetic rope or steel cable specifically designed for a load capacity of the
nominal pull force. The rope is wound up in the „winding in“ position on the drum and ends up with a noose
to pick up the lifting hook.
5. For steel winch cabels we use roller fairleads, for synthetic ropes we use billet aluminum fairleads. If
you use the winches at an angle, the rope window is there to guide the rope to the drum, minimizing the
damage to the rope caused by abrasion.
6. Mechanical transmission system: The reduction gear transforms the engine power into extreme pulling
forces.
7.
Brake system: The winch has a drum brake that acts from the inside on the rope drum and is triggered
automatically. The brake shoes are similar to the ones on a car and do also wear out (depending on load
and operating hours). Therefore, never use the winch to rappel down persons!
8. Freewheeling clutch: The freewheeling clutch allows the operator to manually detach the coil drum from
the gearbox („clutch out“) and unwind the rope by hand. If the clutch is engaged („clutch in“), the winch is
locked into the transmission system.
9.
Solenoid/relay: Electricity from the vehicle battery runs through the power switch (mandatory) before being
directed to the winch engine.
10. Remote control: The remote control has a dual-switch to winch the rope in or out. The remote control
allows you to stay at a safe distance from the rope if the winch is in operation.
11.
Pulley: There are two ways to use a pulley. You can either use it to double the power of the winch by
making a hoist, or to guide your winch cable in a different direction. To deal with a pulley properly, you need
a instruction!
