Hair growth cycle and photoepilation
The hair follicle is subject to cyclical, repetitive changes. In the course of a
person’s life, there are 20-30 hair cycles. The growth of the hair in the follicle
takes place in four successive phases:
Anagen – hair growth phase – approx. 4 - 8 weeks.
Katagen – transitional phase, involution of the hair follicle – lasts for approx. 14
- 21 days.
Telogen – resting phase – approx. 2 - 4 months.
Exogen – hair release phase – releasing of hair, followed by the reactivation
process.
At any time, most hair follicles are in one of the phases of the hair growth cycle.
The cycle, starting from the hair growth phase to the resting phase, causes the
need for repeated treatments with the IPL hair removal system in order to obtain
long-lasting results. The performance of the device will vary depending on the
person and the body part being treated, as well as the colour of the hair and how
