4.2 Engine Oil
Before starting
the generator it is important to visually
check around the generator for any loose or damaged
parts and then to check the fluid levels of oil and coolant.
It important that the correct levels are maintained and
should be checked daily.
Engine Oil Level
If the generator has been running then wait for 10
minutes to allow for the engine oil to drain back into the
oil pan.
The oil level can be checked via the Dipstick (Item B fig
4.2a) and if low can be topped up via the filler neck (Item
A fig 4.2a) using oil to required seasonal viscosity grade
as recommended in the engine manufacturers
specification.
Do not overfill. The oil level should be as marked on the
dipstick when it is screwed into the engine.
Replace the engine oil after the first 50 hours, then every
200 or
300
hours
of
running (dependent on engine make).
When changing
the oil or topping
-
up, use oil of a grade suitable for the
prevailing ambient temperatures (see table in engine
handbook ).
Drain the oil into a suitable waste oil container, and
follow HSE recommendations regarding the handling
and disposal of contaminated oil products. Information
on the Health and Safety aspects of working with oil are
contained in this manual.
Coolant Level
The radiator filler can be located at the front of the set.
Maintain the coolant level in line with the mark on the
radiator filler neck (Item A Fig 4.2b).
Top up as required with proper coolant solution (refer to
the engine manufacturers manual) if the level is low.
CAUTION:
Explosive release of fluids from pressurised
cooling systems can cause serious burns. Only remove
filler cap when engine is cold or when cool enough to
touch with bare hands. Slowly loosen cap to first stop to
relieve pressure before removing completely.
4.3 Starting Manually
Check the lubricating oil level and fuel level, and top up
as necessary. Do not overfill. The Oil level should be as
marked on the dipstick when it is screwed into the
engine.
4.4 Stopping Manually
The generator can be stopped using the key On / Off
switch or during normal operation however in the case of
a
Emergency
the Red Button on the side of the unit can
be used to stop the generator. ONLY use the
Emergency Stop for emergences.
4.5 Power Output Connections
These generator is supplied with 1 x 32A and 2 x 16A
output sockets.
The M10 brass stud next to the output sockets should be
connected to an external earth point or to an earth spike.
An earth spike can be supplied as an optional extra and
should be
driven at least
600 mm into soil.
The RCD should be tested by pressing the TEST button
and checking that the RCD trips and has to be reset
while the generator is running. This should be done
every day.
