Maintenance
Battery
The battery is a maintenance free unit and should not
require the electrolyte being topped up.
Check that the positive and negative terminals are
tight and secure, and free from corrosion. Lightly coat
them with petroleum jelly or similar to protect from
corrosion.
Check that the battery securing strap is tight and the
battery is held
fi
rmly.
Fuel System
Check the semi-transparent pre-
fi
lter for signs of water
contamination, drain water or replace if necessary.
To change the main
fi
lter:
(a)
(b)
Unscrew the sensor (a) from the cartridge (b).
Rotate the
fi
lter to take it to the unlocked position and
remove.
Reassembly is the opposite of removal.
Coolant
WARNING
Explosive release of
fl
uids from pressurised cooling
systems can cause serious burns. Only remove
fi
ller cap when engine is cold or when cool enough
to touch with bare hands. Slowly loosen cap to
fi
rst
stop to relieve pressure before removing completely.
Check the coolant level daily and top up if necessary.
Check the radiator and hoses for signs of damage or
leaks. Check the cap and seal for signs of damage.
Clean the radiator matrix of leaves or similar debris.
Check the coolant level when the engine is stationary
and on a level surface.
The radiator should be
fi
lled to typically 1 cm above
the core of the radiators matrix.
Replace coolant every 12 months or as speci
fi
ed by
the engine manufacturer’s guidelines.
Refer to Engine Manufacturer’s Operation and
Maintenance Manual for details of Coolant Mix.
Air FIlter
To replace the air
fi
lter:
(c)
(d)
(a) (b)
1. Release the two hooks (a) and remove the air
fi
lter cover (b) from the air
fi
lter body (c).
2. Remove the cartridge (d)
3. Clean
fi
lter and replace or insert the new cartridge
4. Reassemble in reverse order.
Engines Glow Plugs (where fi tted)
With the engine starting normally measure the
current being drawn by each glow plug or heater
to con
fi
rm operational.
Replace them periodically as recommended in the
engine manufacturer’s manual.
Engines Fan and Accessories Drive Belt
Check the fan belt daily and if necessary re-tension
it. Replace if showing signs of wear.
Replace periodically in accordance with the engine
manufacturers recommendations.
Check RCD Trip
The earth leakage unit (RCD) has a self-test button
which can be used to apply a fault and to check that
the unit trips out when the generator is running.
