2.5 Motor protection device
All EC axial high-performance fans are equipped with energy-saving, maintenance-free EC external rotor motors (pro-
tection class for types ... 250 A, 315 A and 355 A IP 44, or 355 B to 500 B IP 54, interference-free, ball bearing-
mounted) with the highest efficiency factor. Suitable for permanent operation S1 with insulation class THCL 155.

– Types of error and controller response
If the EC fan rotates counter to the rotation direction without a default signal, it is checked whether the motor is rotating
more than 180 rpm during the start-up. In this event, the start-up is cancelled. In case of a motor speed of less than
180 rpm, deceleration takes place and the direct start-up.
EC fans ... 355 B bis, 500 B
In “Stop” mode (i.e. not enabled, no default signal, no power supply), the motor controller does not intervene when the
fan rotates in the incorrect direction (due to airflow).
If the fan is put into operation (power on) while it is propelled counter to the set rotation direction, the speed will be con-
trolled, reduced to “0” and started in the set rotation direction. The higher the speed that must be reduced, the longer
the duration of this process.
In cases where the fan is propelled strongly in the incorrect rotation direction, it may be that it is not possible to put the
fan into operation with the set rotation direction.
In order for the fan to be able to restart in “Stop” mode, do not disconnect mains voltage!
A safe fan start-up is not ensured if it is propelled backwards. If the application requires a safe start-up, the operator
must prevent backward propulsion by appropriate measures.
These EC fans are equipped with Status LED in the cover of the terminal compartment (Fig.6).
