III. Installation Requirements
All unit installations
must be in accordance with the National Fuel Gas Code ANSI Z223.1 (NFPA 54) in the United States
and Can/CGA-B149 Installation Code in Canada, and all other applicable local codes and ordinances. These requirements
include but are not limited to:
Furnace Location and clearances
Circulating airflow and ductwork
Combustion air supply to the heating equipment
Venting of the products of combustion (flue gases)
Gas supply, piping and connections
Unit Location / Clearances
Duct furnace must be installed on the positive pressure side of the circulating blower,
in a
non-
combustible duct or cabinet
. Furnace must be installed in a level, horizontal position. Be sure that structural
support is adequate for the unit weight.
Unit must also be located to provide suitable clearances
to combustible construction as follows:
Sides/back
:
6
inches (152mm)
Bottom
:
2 in.
(51mm)
Top
:
6 in.
(152mm)
Front
:
36 in.
(912mm)
Location Recommendations
1.) When locating the duct furnace, consider general space and heating requirements, availability of gas and
electrical supply, and proximity to vent locations and condensate drain lines. Do not install duct furnace vent
where flue products can be drawn into adjacent building openings such as windows, doors or fresh air
intakes.
2.) Consider that the exhaust vent piping and combustion air piping (separated combustion systems) must be
connected to the outside atmosphere. Vent terminals should be located adjacent to one another. Maximum
equivalent vent lengths are listed in Tables 2 and 4 of the venting instructions.
3.) Equipment access panels and doors must be located to provide easy access for servicing, adjustment and
maintenance of the heating units installed.
Mounting the Duct Furnace
The duct furnace is provided with channels on the base to provide for floor mounted installations. These channels provide the
required minimum clearance to combustible floor surfaces.
DO NOT
remove channels unless furnace is being installed in a
cabinet.
Direction of Airflow
Furnace must be installed in the airflow orientation marked on vestibule plate or cabinet. Configurations are
specific to
airflow direction
through the heating section.
EM Series heating units are bi-directional.
See Figure 1 for required furnace/airflow configurations.
Maximum
supply air temperature (LAT) for these configurations is 140
o
F.
A supply air temperature sensor must be
mounted in the supply air duct to limit the maximum discharge air temperature. Sensor should be located at least
5 feet but less than 20 feet downstream of the furnace discharge.
