WIRING THE PVK-80 POWER VENT
NOTE:
Electrical wiring must be done in accordance with
national, provincial, and/or local electric codes.
CAUTION:
Before performing any maintenance, repair,
or electrical wiring to the fi replace/power vent, make sure
the electrical power is fi rst disconnected to the fi replace/
power vent.
Note:
The PVK-80 Power Vent includes a 6 1/2 foot 5-wire as-
sembly wired into the vent cap fan motor. If this wire assembly
will not reach the fi replace, the wires may need to be spliced to
additional wire lengths in a junction box installed inside the build-
ing. Follow applicable electric codes.
The RED60 appliance comes wired for use with a PVI-DVP
power vent. If opting to use a PVK-80 power vent, these
instructions must be followed carefully to ensure the proper
function of the appliance.
1. Determine which optional wiring diagram will be used
to wire the PVK-80. See Figures 7.35, 7.36 & 7.37.
2. Remove module heat shield cover plate. Unplug the
PVI controller, 2196-313 power harness, 2196-311 har-
ness and 6V DC transformer. Unplug and discard the
accessory cable. See Figure 7.37.
3. Plug wire harness (593-590A) into green control mod-
ule. Attach all wires to the appropriate connection points
as shown on wiring diagram. Plug red wire and brown
wire from the wire harness into the red and brown ter-
minals from the wiring harness terminal block.
4. Plug 3V transformer female connectors into open male
spade terminals on the green control module. Plug
transformer into junction box.
5. If required, bore an additional 7/8 inch diameter hole
in the side of the fi replace outer wrap near where the
wire hole already exists. Use a strain relief connector
to secure wires whenever wires pass through a steel
panel. See Figure 7.33.
6. Place the PVK-80 terminal block/wiring harness assem-
bly in the cavity under the fi replace near the junction box
using provided velcro pads. See Figure 7.34. Connect
the black, white, brown and/or red wires from the power
vent assembly to the terminal block according to the
appropriate wiring diagram. Connect the green wire to
the ground stud of the junction box.

7. Use the appropriate wiring diagram to determine the
route of the black wire. Follow all electrical guide-
lines.
8. Use the appropriate wiring diagram to determine the
route of the white wire(s). Follow all electrical guide-
lines.
9. Locate appliance ON/OFF switch, supplied with the
appliance. Locate in an easily accessible location and
wire per the appropriate wiring diagram.
10. Replace any covers or plates removed in Step 2.
11. Use a cable tie to connect the wires together so that
no wire is in contact with the top of the cavity under
the fi replace.
13. Reconnect electrical power supply to the junction
box.
