Lesson 6a: Reading Text Files on a Floppy Diskette. (txt, doc, html, pdf, etc.).

Steps:
1.

Press the Mode Key.

2.

Insert a Floppy Diskette into the Floppy
Drive.

3.

Press and release the Start Key.

How: The Mode Key can be found on the keypad

at the Top/Left corner (if the keypad cord is
pointing away from you). The Mode key
has a raised diamond on it that you can feel.
Press it completely down and quickly
release the key. The Extreme Reader will
announce that, “You are now in Diskette
Read Mode.” If for some reason the
Extreme Reader announces that you are in a
different mode, press the Mode Key
repeatedly until it says, “You are now in
Diskette Read Mode.”

How: To find the slot to insert your floppy

diskette, first place your hand on the top of
the FRONT face of the Extreme Reader,
right near the center. (See Lesson 1. Step
2.) Slowly lower your hand until you find a
thin slot with a spring-loaded plastic door
covering it. Insert your Floppy Diskette
into the slot until it catches. DO NOT
FORCE the Floppy Diskette into the slot.
There is only one direction that a Floppy
can be inserted. If the Floppy feels like it
doesn’t fit, then try flipping the Diskette
over or inserting the other side.

How: The Start Key can be found on the keypad

at the Bottom/Left corner (if the keypad
cord is pointing away from you). The Start
key has a raised full circle on it that you can
feel. Press it completely down and quickly
release the key. The Extreme Reader will
Scan the Floppy Diskette for a text based
file (only one per Diskette) and it will
immediately begin reading the file.
