Safety notes
Caution: Risk of scalding
Before and during use make sure that the thermostat
is functioning correctly. Children and adults with
reduced sensory capabilities should not use the product
unsupervised.
Application
Thermostat mixers are designed for hot water supply via
pressurised storage heater and utilised in this way provide the
best temperature accuracy. With sufficient power (from 18 kW
or 250 kcal/min) electric or gas instantaneous heaters are also
suitable. Safe limitation of the max. outlet temperature via
preset thermostats on every standard wash basin mixer
(thermal scalding protection)
. Thermostat mixers cannot be
used in conjunction with low-pressure storage heaters
(displacement water heaters). All thermostats are adjusted in
the plant at a flow pressure on both sides of 3 bar.
If temperature deviations should occur on account of special
installation conditions, the thermostat must be adapted to local
conditions (see Adjustment).
Specifications
• Thermal disinfection possible
• Pre-adjustment:
39 °C
• Max. mixed water temperature:
43 °C ±2 °C
*1
• Minimum flow rate:
= 5 l/min
*1
Measured at a hot water supply temperature of at least 60 °C
with constant pressure cold/warm.
A pressure reducing valve must be fitted in the supply line if
static pressures exceed 5 bar to satisfy noise level ratings.
Recommendations of use of thermostatic mixing valves
for compliance with the Kiwa UK TMV Type 2
certification Scheme.
EN 1111: 2017 Table 1 Conditions for the use of the
thermostatic mixing valves.
Valves to EN 1111 are designated for High pressure shower or
bath/tub use as appropriate HP-S-T.
Table 1:
Table 2:
Installation of the thermostatic mixing valves.
1. The installation shall comply with the requirements of the
Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999.
2. The thermostatic mixing valve shall be installed with the
correct backflow prevention device, if required.
3. Isolation valves must be fitted to both hot and cold inlet
supplies and they should be fitted in an accessible position.
4. Strainers are supplied with the product and should be
installed as shown in the installation manual.
5. Thermostatic mixing valves shall be installed as stated in the
installation manual with allowable access for maintenance
and commissioning.
6. Commissioning of the valve.
When commissioning the thermostatic mixing valve check the
following:
a. The thermostatic mixing valve and its designation are
appropriate and matches its application, see
https://www.kiwa.com/gb/en/products/tmv-testing/
or https://www.kiwa.com/gb/en/about-kiwa/tmvs-certificate-
search/
b. The supply pressures are within the valves operating range.
c. The supply temperatures are within the valves operating
range.
d. Isolating valves are not provided but should be installed.
e. If all these conditions are met, proceed to set the
temperature as stipulated in the installation instructions.
f. It is a requirement that Type 2 approved valves shall be
verified against the original set temperature results once a
year.
g. When commissioning or testing is due the following
performance checks shall be carried out.
1. Measure and record the mixed water temperature at the
outlet.
2. Isolate the cold water supply to the TMV, wait for at least five
seconds, if water is still flowing check that the temperature is
below 46°C. If there is no significant change to the set outlet
temperature (±2°C or less change from the original settings)
and the fail-safe shut off is functioning, then the valve is
working correctly and no further service work is required.
Note, if there is residual flow during the commissioning or
annual verification (cold water supply isolation test), then
this is acceptable providing the temperature of the water
seeping from the valve is no more than 2°C above the
designated maximum mixed water outlet temperature
setting of the valve.
