Review the troubleshooting procedures in this section if a problem develops with your machine. If you need
replacement parts or additional help with a procedure, call our Technical Support.

Note: Please gather the

serial number and manufacture date of your machine before calling.

SECTION 7: SERVICE

Troubleshooting

Motor & Electrical

Symptom

Possible Cause

Possible Solution

Machine does not
start or a breaker
trips.

1.  Switch disabling key removed.
2.  Onboard circuit breaker has tripped.

3.  Power supply incorrect or circuit breaker

tripped or fuse blown.

4.  Wires connected incorrectly at switch.
5.  Wiring open/has high resistance.
6.  ON/OFF switch at fault.
7.  Carbon brushes are at fault.
8.  Motor at fault.

1.  Install disabling key.
2.  Reset; contact Tech Support if breaker frequently

trips.

3.  Ensure power supply circuit is sized correctly and

free of shorts. Reset circuit breaker or replace fuse.

4.  Correct switch wiring connections.
5.  Check/fix broken, disconnected, or corroded wires.
6.  Test/replace.
7.  Replace carbon brushes.
8.  Test/repair/replace.

Machine stalls or is
underpowered.

1.  Taking too deep of cut; feed rate too high.
2.  Workpiece material not suitable.
3.  Motor overheated. Circuit breaker tripped.

4.  Belts slipping; improper belt tension or oil/

grease on belts.

5.  Dull knives/inserts.

6.  Dust collection problem causing internal

components to clog up with shavings.

7.  Pulley/sprocket slipping on shaft.

8.  Motor bearings at fault.

1.  Reduce depth of cut/feed rate.
2.  Only cut wood/ensure moisture is below 20%.
3.  Allow motor to cool, reset circuit breaker if

necessary, and reduce depth of cut/feed rate.

4.  Clean/tension/replace belts (

Page 36).

5.  Sharpen/replace knives (

Page 27); or replace

inserts (

Page 29).

6.  Clear blockages in dust chute/ducting. Ensure dust

collector is operating efficiently.

7.  Tighten loose pulley; replace pulley/shaft if

damaged.

8.  Test/repair/replace.

Machine has
vibration or noisy
operation.

1.  Motor or component loose; planer not

resting evenly on stand/workbench.

2.  V-belt(s) worn, loose, or slapping cover.
3.  Pulley loose.
4.   Motor fan rubbing on fan cover.
5.  Knives/gibs at fault.

6.   Motor bearings at fault.

7.  Cutterhead bearings at fault.

1.  Inspect/tighten loose bolts/nuts; replace damaged

components; shim under planer.

2.  Tension belts/replace with a matched set (

Page 36).

3.  Re-align/replace shaft, pulley set screw, and key.
4.  Fix/replace fan cover; replace loose/damaged fan.
5.  Resharpen/replace knives; set knife alignment

correctly (

Page 27).

6.  Test by rotating shaft; rotational grinding/loose shaft

requires bearing replacement.

7.  Replace bearing(s).
