Deploy the receiver aerial as far from all high-current wires as possible (at least 3 cm).
•
Please ensure that the only materials to make contact with the Depron surfaces are foam-compatible
adhesives and cleaning agents, as other solvents may dissolve and destroy the surface.
•
Recommended adhesives for gluing various materials:
Material - material
Suitable adhesives
Plastic generally - Depron
Foam cyano / UHU por
Depron - Depron
Foam cyano / UHU por
Depron - metal
Foam cyano / UHU por
Read and observe the instructions supplied with all adhesives! The building instructions inform you when
to use particular glues. If you wish to use white spirit or other solvent as a cleaning agent, note that special
safety measures are required. Read the instructions supplied with these materials.
Assembly instructions
1. Cut out the Parts List from the instructions, and the page showing the part numbers of the laser-cut
components, so that you always have direct access to this information during the building process. This will
make construction easier, and help you to understand the instructions.
2. Sand a 45° chamfer in the right and left inside face (green) of the fuselage reinforcements (1) and (2). Sand a
30° chamfer in the elevator (3), the rear fuselage centre section (4), the wing (5), the ailerons (6), the top
fuselage section (7), the bottom fuselage section (8) and the rudder (9) so that the specified control surface
travels can be obtained later.
All the parts should be chamfered as shown in the pictures. When
chamfering the elevator remember that the 30° angle should be on the underside. Note that the slot for
the horn must be on the same side as the opening in the fuselage for the elevator servo.
3. It is possible to fly the model with a forward or rearward Centre of Gravity: for smooth general flying use the
forward balance point by installing the battery in the front recess in the bottom fuselage reinforcements (2).
This position is indicated by non-continuous laser-cut lines; cut out the battery recess along this outline. If you
wish to fly 3-D aerobatics the battery should be positioned further aft, under the wing.
4. Glue the motor mounts in the slots in the top fuselage section (7) and the front fuselage centre section (11).
Reinforce these joints with strips of self-adhesive glass fibre tape (12).
5. Glue the front fuselage centre section (11) and the rear fuselage centre section (4) to the wing (5) using UHU-
por.
Ensure that the slot for the elevator horn is on the same side as the opening for the elevator servo.
6. Glue the carbon strip wing reinforcements (13) to the upper wing leading edge doubler (14) and the lower wing
leading edge doubler (15) using UHU-por. Cut off the superfluous carbon strip using side-cutters or a fine saw.
7. Use UHU-por again to glue the top and bottom leading edge doublers to the wing. Note that these parts should
be positioned at the leading edge on either side of the fuselage, and then curve aft gently towards the tips.
It is
important to glue the doublers in place on a flat surface to avoid a curved or warped wing. You will find
a small laser-cut rectangle in the centre of the wing which acts as a reference point; this must line up
accurately with the matching slot in the leading edge doublers.
8. Glue the battery well cover (16) to the centre of the wing and the leading edge doubler.
9. The next step is to glue the top fuselage section to components (4), (5) and (11); this must be done with the
latter parts lying flat on the workbench. Pack up the rear using the underside of the fuselage and the front using
the rudder, then glue the top fuselage section to the wing at right-angles using UHU-por. Allow the joints to set
hard, then glue the top fuselage reinforcements in place at an angle of 45°, again using UHU-por.
10. Glue one of the double-ended control surface horns (17) to the elevator using UHU-por, and attach the hinge
lug (18) to it. Apply a little UHU-por to the hinge lug and push it into the slot in the tailplane. Attach the elevator
to the tailplane using patches of self-adhesive glass fibre tape as shown.
11. Glue the bottom fuselage section and the lower fuselage reinforcements in place using UHU-por.
As
described for the top fuselage sections, it is important that these parts are perfectly straight and at
right-angles to the structure.
12. There are two methods of actuating the ailerons: the first is to use double-ended horns and pull-cables, the
second is to use a single-sided horn (19) and a wire pushrod (20). The method of installing the linkages is as
described for the elevator linkage.
