13. Glue one of the double-ended control surface horns (25) to the elevator using UHU-por, and attach the
hinge lug (26) to it. Apply a little UHU-por to the hinge lug and push it into the slot in the tailplane. Attach
the elevator to the tailplane using patches of self-adhesive glass fibre tape as shown.
14. Cut off the superfluous servo output arms to leave a circular disc as shown, and fit this on the servo.
Remove one end of the pre-formed propeller pitch pushrod (27) so that it is half its original length.
15. Attach the long end of the propeller pitch pushrod (27) to the servo output disc, then glue the servo in the
bottom fuselage section using UHU-por. The battery compartment and the bottom fuselage section can
now be glued to the structure after slipping the propeller pitch pushrod between the wing leading edge
doublers.
Ensure that the bottom fuselage section is completely straight and at right-angles.
16. The ailerons are actuated by a single servo using return pulleys (29). Install the pulleys on the wing surface
using UHU-por, as shown in the following pictures. The return pulley positions are indicated by holes, which
must coincide with the pulley axis; Align the pulleys with the trailing edge of the wing doublers.
17. Insert the aileron stops (28) in the wing and glue them in place using foam cyano, taking care to keep them
at right-angles to the wing surface.
18. The ailerons can now be fitted; the method of attaching the horns is as described for the elevator.
19. Mount the horn on the rudder, as described for the elevator and ailerons.
20. Install the double-ended output arms on the servos. You will need to extend the elevator and rudder servo
leads (dimensions stated in the picture). Glue the servos in the appropriate recesses using UHU-por.
21. At this stage the speed controller wires should be soldered to the motor wires; check carefully that the
motor spins in the correct direction before finalising the solder joints. Attach the motor mount adaptor (29)
to the motor. Install the variable-pitch propeller on the motor as described in the instructions supplied with
the set. Connect the propeller pitch actuator to the pitch pushrod. Fit the retaining screws (30) through the
motor mounting lugs, and attach the motor to the motor mounts using the retaining screws provided.
22. Glue the speed controller to the bottom fuselage reinforcement using UHU-por.
23. Connect the servo leads and the lead attached to the speed controller to the receiver output sockets, using
the sequence stated in the receiver operating instructions; the propeller pitch servo should be connected to
receiver output 5. The receiver can now be glued to the fuselage using UHU-por. Deploy the receiver aerial
and the elevator and rudder servo leads along the bottom edge of the fuselage and secure them with
adhesive tape.
24. The control surface linkages can now be completed using the linkage cord (31).
The procedure for this is
always the same, regardless of the length of the cords:
start by threading the cord through the first hole
in the horn, then through the second, then back through the first again. Repeat this twice more. Only then
run the cord through the last hole, around the cord again and into the slot, where it is glued in place.
The
cord must not be under tension at this stage.
Now run the cord to the servo and through the outermost
hole in the servo output arm, then through the innermost hole. Turn the model over, and thread the cord
through the central hole on the other side, before running it once more through the outermost hole and
back towards the control surface horn. Thread the end of the cord through the horn holes as described
earlier.
Before you draw the cord into the slot on the opposite side of the horn, pull gently on the
end of the cord to draw the linkage taut; the tension in the cord should only be light.
Now you can
pull the cord into the slot. If the cord should loosen, or expand due to low temperature, this system makes it
very easy to re-tension the linkage. Once you have installed all the control surface linkages, switch the
radio control system on briefly to centre all the servos. Check that the control surfaces are at neutral, then
fix the linkage cord to the servo output arms with a drop of cyano.
25. Cut both undercarriage legs (32) to a length of 230 mm. Push the wheel axle supports (33) onto the
undercarriage legs, and secure them with a drop of cyano. Sand back the ends of the undercarriage legs
flush with the axle supports. Glue the undercarriage fairings (34) to the legs using UHU-por.
