General
The heater may be used free standing on feet which are
provided. The heater should only be operated when in the
upright position as shown in
Fig.1
.
Fitting Feet
To attach the feet, use the
two screws provided in the base
of the heater.
Positioning the heater
When using the product free standing always ensure that
the heater is stood on a firm, level base near
to, but not
directly beneath, a suitable mains supply socket, ensuring
at least 600mm clearance from any shelf above.
Ensure that curtains and furniture are not positioned close
to the chosen position, as this would create a potential fire
hazard.
See also ‘Important Safety Advice’.
NEVER USE THE HEATER FREE STANDING WITHOUT
THE FEET FITTED.
Lay the heater on its back, (If wall brackets attached,
remove), locate the foot fixing screw (see ‘a’ in
Fig. 3
).
Remove the screw using an X–head screwdriver, then
align foot over hole in base and insert the foot fixing screw,
tighten using a screwdriver to secure the foot.
Using the heater
To use the heater simply plug in and switch on at the wall
socket. The heat output is 500 watts.
Please note: The element has been coated with a protective
film which will burn off during the first few minutes of use and
may cause a small amout of fuming. This is quite normal.
The fumes are non-toxic and will quickly disappear. We
recommend that you open a window to ventilate the room
when using the heater for the first time.
Thermostat Control
The heat output is controlled by the thermostat,
according to the room temperature. Turn the
thermostat knob fully clockwise to maximum
setting initially. When the room is warm
enough, reduce the setting slowly until the
heater just clicks off.
The heater will now cycle on and off to
maintain your selected room temperature. An audible click
may be heard when the thermostat operates - this is normal.
Note : If the heater does not come on when the thermostat is
at a low setting, this is normally because the room is warmer
than the thermostat setting and is not a fault.
Position ‘ ’ will turn the heater on and off to maintain a
temperature of approximately 5°C.
Safety - overheat protection
The heater is fitted with a cut-out which switches off the
supply in the event of overheating caused by covering the
heater. Normal operation will be automatically resumed
shortly after removing the covering article.
Cleaning and User Maintenance
WARNING: ALWAYS DISCONNECT FROM THE POWER
SUPPLY BEFORE CLEANING THE HEATER.
Do not use detergents, abrasive cleaning powder or polish
of any kind on the body of the heater.
Allow the heater to cool, then wipe with a dry cloth to remove
dust and a damp cloth (not wet) to clean off stains. Be careful
not to allow moisture into the heater.
Note
Please note that lit cigarettes, candles and oil burners,
combined with the convection effect of electric heaters
can cause soot deposits to build up on the surface directly
above and to the sides of the heater. This is not a fault of
the heater. Extensive burning of candles or smoking in the
operating environment of this product can produce heavy
discolouration within a few months of use.
Although this heater is manufactured to comply with the
relevant safety standards, certain types of carpets could
become discoloured by the temperatures under a portable
heater. If you are concerned about this, we recommend
that you stand the heater on a suitable base to shield the
carpet or wall-mount it – call our Helpline for further advice.
