4. Setting up the smart plug(s) around the house
The smart plugs are used to relay the messages to and from the
Genius Hub and the valves, room sensors, boiler controller and
thermostat.
The signals travel in straight lines and the only devices
that relay the messages are the smart plugs and the boiler controller.
If only one smart plug is provided position it halfway between the
Genius Hub and the furthest other device in the house.
Consider that thick stone on concrete walls will be impossible for the
wireless signal to penetrate, so the smart plug may need to be
positioned in a wall socket, which gives a longer route but through
thinner walls.
Do not plug anything into the smart plug that needs to remain on all of
the time such as a fridge or freezer. The smart plugs intermittently turn
off, causing anything that you plug into it to also turn off.
For large properties with more smart plugs, they will need to be
plugged into wall sockets in a central location. Ideally one smart plug
will be positioned in the same room as the Genius Hub, and one smart
plug put one on each floor directly above or below the Genius Hub.
When setting up the network remember to close all the doors in the
house to make sure the signals will find the best routes.
