4.4 Polling Function
This type of DeviceNet-function is used for a fast cyclic exchange of Drive-
parameters between Master and AGy drive.
The characteristics of the Polling-function are:
1. The data frame length is function of how many parameter have to be
exchange and can vary from 1 to 12 byte for both directions
(Slave->Master and Master->Slave).
2. The card, as it is a Slave, during the Polling consumes Output data and
produces Input data as response. The DeviceNet datas defined as Input
data are read from the Slave. The DeviceNet data defined as Output
data are write to the Slave.
With Polling is possible to read and write parameters of the drive.
A datum can be made both of 2 and 4 bytes. The word “data” refers to any
quantity of bytes included between 0 and 6, if the byte total number required
is not higher than 12.
Example 1:
It is possible to have:
- from 0 to 6 data with 2 bytes
- 1 datum with 4 bytes + from 0 to 4 data with 2 bytes
- 2 data with 4 bytes + from 0 to 2 data with 2 bytes
- 3 data with 4 bytes
The drive has 2-bytes writing data.
The drive has 2-bytes reading data (except where 4 bytes are stated).
Example 2:
- writing of 2 data: 4 bytes are required (PDO1 is sufficient).
Example 3:
- writing of 5 data: 10 bytes are required.
The words are managed as Byte low, Byte high:
i.e. 1000 => 03E8 is transmitted as EB03.
The master writes the data defined as “SBI to Drv” and reads the data de
-
fined as “Drv to SBI”.
