DCS-9565 CrossConnect Server
The DCS-9565 combines the function of a drop/insert multiplexer with the DCS. A drop/insert
multiplexer is essentially a pair of back-to-back terminal multiplexers, in which some circuits
terminate while others pass through. A drop/insert multiplexer can terminate payload circuits from
either of two different T1 circuits (that is, from either of two different locations).
With the Figure 2-15 configuration, you can drop twice as many DS0 circuits as you can with only one
CM-5 module. These circuits provide locally terminated services, such as voice, data, audio, and video.
In the figure, to the left of the dotted line, the device configuration is treated as an Access Server
configuration.

The drop/insert multiplexer, when connected to a DCS, can also be used as a dual terminal
multiplexer, with the ability to locally terminate up to 48 time slots from up to four remote locations.
The
T1 Access Server Installation and Operation Manual
gives the correct configuration (ACS-165).
