CHAPTER 3. START-UP. OPERATION AND ADJUSTMENT.
3.1. OPERATION CONTROLS.
After carrying out the electricity supply
installation the equipment can be started up. In the
figure below the control and adjustment system of
the GAR T series equipment is described. As you can
see, these machines are very simple to handle.

A- Start-up switch and change of voltage.
It has a safety system which prevents the position of
the switch from being different to the pre-selected
one (220,380V).
B- Welding intensity adjustment wheel.
Turned to the left the welding current decreases,
whilst turned to the right the welding current
increases.
C- Graduated dial indicating the welding current.
You can see the approximate value of the welding
current selected with the adjustment wheel.
D- Intakes for welding clip and ground.
The correct polarity must be chosen depending on
the work to be carried out.
E- ON/OFF light.
3.2. OPERATION SEQUENCE FOR STARTING UP THE
MACHINE
1. Place the clip and ground in intakes D.
The polarity will be determined depending on the
work to be carried out (see section 3.2 and 3.3)
2. Set the welding current with wheel B.
3. Apply the on/off switch (A) depending on
the supply voltage. First check that the safety system
is correct.
4. You can begin the welding operation.
3.3. WELDING WITH COATED ELECTRODE.
When welding with coated electrode the
welding clip and ground must be connected
according to the polarity recommended by the
electrode manufacturer.
Normally, the majority of the electrodes must
be fitted with direct polarity, that is, the welding clip
in negative pole and the ground in the positive pole.
However, welding with basic or special electrodes is
normally carried out with inverse polarity, that is, the
electrode clip placed in the positive pole and the
ground in the negative one. In each case we will
follow the instructions given by the electrode
manufacturer.
3.4. WELDING BY MEANS OF TIG PROCEDURE
In TIG welding only direct polarity must be used,
placing the welding clip in negative pole. In
addition, we must place a bottle of gas in the system
(normally Argon) which we will connect as indicated
in figure 4.
