How to Configure the TCP/IP Protocol

How to Configure TCP/IP under Windows

Before a computer is able to communicate with a ComPoint, the
TCP/IP protocol has to be installed and correctly configured on
the computer. In the following section, you can find instructions
on how to configure the TCP/IP protocol on your computer. If
you are not able to install a TCP/IP protocol on your computer in
spite of the following instructions, please consult your network
administrator or the manufacturer of your operating system.

The following directives are general instructions. Special features
of your networks should be discussed with your network admin-
istrator.

First of all, each computer requires its own IP address. An IP
address consists of a sequence of numbers according to the follow-
ing pattern:

192.168.1.x

x is an unambiguous, freely selectable number from 1 to 254. x
must not be 0 or 255. Each computer must have an unambiguous
x number.

If you want to network 3 computers, for instance, you can assign
the following IP addresses to them:

192.168.1.1
192.168.1.47
192.168.1.100

In this case, 1, 47, 100 are freely selected numbers between 1 and
254.

Moreover, each network computer requires a subnet mask. If you
are not sure which subnet mask is correct for you, select the fol-
lowing value:

255.255.255.0
