Installing the Server

Connecting and Disconnecting Cables

3.4.1

Connecting Devices to the Server

The ports for the devices are at the rear of the server (see “Rear View” on 
page 47). Exception: a USB 1.1 port is located at the front of the server.

Ê

Connect the data cables to the devices and the server.

   Some of the connected devices require that you install and configure 

special software (see the documentation for the connected device).

3.4.2

SMP Expansion cabling

The cabling information in this section is for multi-node configurations that 
consist of two or four servers, for up to 16-way operation. A node is a server that 
is interconnected with other servers or nodes through the SMP Expansion Ports 
to share system resources. 

To configure and cable a multi-node configuration, complete the following steps:

Ê

Verify that the BIOS code and the firmware have the most current level (see 
“System Information” on page 56).

Ê

If necessary, update the BIOS code and the service processor firmware. To 
download the most current level of BIOS code and service processor 
firmware, go to www.fujitsu-siemens.com/support.

Ê

Make sure that the service processor on each node is configured and 
connected to the network. See the RSA-II User Manual for more information.

Ê

Make sure that the service processor of each node works with the current 
date and time. See RSA user manual for more information.

Ê

Cable the configuration, using the instructions in this section. 

Ê

Configure the scalable partition. See “Scalable-partition configuration” on 
page 67. 

Ê

Press the power button on the primary node to turn on the multi-node config-
uration manually.
