6.6 Hot-plug PCI/PCI-X Adapters

CAUTION!
Each PCI-X slot of the PRIMERGY RX800 S2 server must be occupied
by either a PCI/PCI-X adapter or an extension-slot cover.
The following operations are possible while the system is running:
– Adding PCI/PCI-X adapters (see “Installing a hot-plug PCI/PCI-X adapter”
on page 121)
– Replacing PCI/PCI-X adapters (see “Replacing a hot-plug PCI/PCI-X
adapter” on page 124)
6.6.1 PCI/PCI-X Adapter Introduction
General information:
– The server supports up to sixfull-length and half-length, 266 MHz or slower,
3.3 V, 32-bit or 64-bit PCI and PCI-X adapters.
– The server scans devices and PCI-X slots to assign system resources in the
following order: integrated Ethernet controller, integrated SAS controller,
and then PCI-X slots 1 through 6.
Before starting, you should proceed as follows:
Ê Locate the documentation that comes with the adapter and follow those
instructions in addition to the instructions in this section.

If the adapter is not hot-pluggable, turn off the server and peripheral devices,
and disconnect the power cords and all external cables necessary to remove
or install the adapter. See the Options Guide for more details on the prepa-
ration and completion procedures when installing a PCI/PCI-X adapter.
Ê
If you must change the switch setting or jumper settings on the adapter,
follow the instructions that come with the adapter.

about enabling a hot-plug PCI-X slot.
