13–00 Safety Precautions
Safety Precautions in this section apply to all
procedures within this group.
DANGER
When working on the vehicle, shut down the
engine or motor, set the parking brake, and chock
the tires. Before working under the vehicle, always
place jack stands under the frame rails to ensure
the vehicle cannot drop. Failure to follow these
steps could result in serious personal injury or
death.
DANGER
Electric vehicles are equipped with a high-voltage
system. Do not attempt any type of electrical work
on the vehicle unless you have completed HV3
Daimler Safety Training. Failure to do so could
cause severe personal injury or death.
13–01 Air Compressor
Inspection
1. Inspect the air compressor intake hoses and
connections at the air intake at the air cleaner,
the resonator, and the air compressor for
physical damage or loose connections. If
needed, change the hoses, and/or tighten or
replace the connections.
2. Inspect the coolant supply and return lines for
tight connections. Tighten the connections and
replace the lines and fasteners if needed.
13–02 Air Compressor Oil and
Filter Change
1. Park the vehicle on a level surface, shut down
the vehicle, and apply the parking brake. Chock
the tires.
2. Open the hood.
3. Remove the air compressor air filter.
4. Clean the area around the fill plug.
5. Remove the fill plug.
6. Drain the air compressor oil using one of the
following methods.
•
Place a drain pan under the air
compressor and remove the drain plug.
•
Use a syringe or hand pump to remove the
oil from the air compressor.
7. If removed, tighten the fill plug to 21 to 24 lbf·ft
(28 to 32 N·m).
8. Fill with new oil until the oil level reaches the
bottom threads of the fill plug.
Fig. 1 shows the
location of the oil port and air filter.
9. Tighten the fill plug to 21 to 24 lbf·ft (28 to 32
N·m).
10. Install a new filter.
11. Close the hood.
