Determining the Flash Version a Device Is Running
To determine the flash image running on a Foundry device, do one of the following.
USING THE CLI
Enter the following command: show version
NOTE: You can enter this command from any CLI access level.
USING THE WEB MANAGEMENT INTERFACE
1. Log on to the device using a valid user name and password for read-only or read-write access. The System
configuration dialog is displayed.
2. Click on the plus sign next to Monitor in the tree view to expand the list of monitoring options.
3. Click on the Device link to display the Device Information panel.
NOTE: You can access the version information whether you have read-write (“set”) or read-only (“get”) access.
Feature List
Table 8.2 on page 8-4 lists the major software features available in the types of flash software listed in Table 8.1
on page 8-2. Some features are supported only in certain flash software. For example, Transparent Cache
Switching (TCS) is supported only in the ServerIron software and on Layer 2 Switches that have been upgraded to
support the feature. For each feature, the table indicates the types of flash code in which the feature is supported.
Table 8.2 on page 8-4 uses the following labels to indicate the flash code types:
• Router – Layer 3 Switch. A device capable of performing Layer 2, Layer 3, and Layer 4 switching and Layer
3 routing. The following Foundry devices are or can be configured as Layer 3 Switches:
• NetIron Internet Backbone router
• BigIron Layer 3 Switch
• TurboIron/8
• FastIron II and FastIron II Plus (but only if upgraded to a Layer 3 Switch)
• TurboIron (but only if upgraded to a Layer 3 Switch)
• NetIron
• Switch – Layer 2 Switch. A device capable of performing Layer 2 switching. The following Foundry devices
are or can be configured as switches:
• BigIron Layer 2 Switch
• FastIron II and FastIron II Plus
• FastIron Backbone
• FastIron Workgroup
• TurboIron/8
• TurboIron
• SrvrIrn – ServerIron. The ServerIron supports all the features supported by the other Layer 2 Switches
except router acceleration (Layer 3 IP switching and Layer 3 IPX switching). The ServerIron also supports
Layer 4 features including Transparent Cache Switching (TCS), Server Load Balancing (SLB), and Firewall
Load Balancing (FWLB).
NOTE: Some features are supported only on specific products. For example, the Server Load Balancing (SLB)
feature is not supported on routers and is available only on the ServerIron and on Layer 2 Switches that have
been upgraded with the feature. Footnotes at the end of the table list exceptions such as this one.
