Low NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness)
• Stiff body
– Overall body structure stiffness helps reduce
interior road-noise levels
– One implementation example includes structural
adhesive sandwiches between the layers of the
rear quarter panels
• Chassis components
– Strategically placed crucial suspension
components help reduce noise inside the cabin
– Other key chassis components, such as stiff front
and rear subframes, help decrease vibration and
harshness that can be heard and felt by the driver
• Foam baffles
– Expandable foam baffles in the A-, B-, C- and
D-pillars and front fenders help keep out unwanted
road and powertrain noise
• Quiet mirrors
– Exterior mirrors are aero-acoustically enhanced to
decrease cabin noise levels, both with windows
closed and open
– Mirror sealing through use of advanced gasket
material technology helps lower noise levels
around the vehicle’s A-pillar while cruising at
highway speeds
– Ford NVH engineers used an elliptical acoustic
mirror to help detect possible noise sources
outside the vehicle and create ways to baffle the
sound’s path as well as reduce the decibel level of
the sound at the source to create a quiet interior
• Sound absorption
– Extensive sound package treatments used
in carpet, dash panel and interior trim panels
reduce transmission of sound into the passenger
compartment, resulting in reduced levels of
interior noise
• Door and window sealing
– Additional level of door system sealing around
the bodyside’s perimeter, along with an enhanced
design window sealing system, to help eliminate
wind leak
• Let in sun, not noise
– Panoramic Vista Roof system with fabric mesh
deflector provides quiet performance with the
roof open
