Preparation of the measuring point
• Prepare a charged cordless screwdriver (max. torque: 5 Nm).
• Mount the pipe mounting fixtures of the WaveInjector on the pipe according to the instructions in section 4.2.
• Use the removable adapter plate to fit the automatic WI tool to the width of the coupling plate aperture (3 mm or 5 mm) of
the used pipe mounting fixture, see Fig. A.1.
• Slide the automatic WI tool into the coupling plate apertures of the pipe mounting fixtures until the clamping surface is
placed below the tensioning screw of the pipe mounting fixture. Make sure that the setting lever is in idle position when
the automatic WI tool is placed on the pip, see Fig. A.2.
• Tighten the tensioning screw until the disk spring package is almost completely compressed.
• Attach the cordless screwdriver (use the supplied flexible shaft, if necessary) to the hex bolt.
• Switch the cordless screwdriver on in clockwise direction. Press the setting lever carefully and slowly down towards the
pipe until the automatic WI tool starts to rasp the pipe surface.
• Keep the cordless screwdriver turned on for some seconds until a chip formation is visible.
• Switch the cordless screwdriver off, move the setting lever into the idle position and remove the automatic WI tool from
the pipe. Examine the pipe and, if necessary, repeat the steps for smoothing the pipe.
• Push the coupling plate with mounted transducer into the coupling plate aperture of the pipe mounting fixture and fix the
coupling plate with the tensioning screw. Use coupling foil. On hot pipes, make sure that no new scale layer is formed. If
a new scale layer is formed, repeat the steps for smoothing the pipe and mount the coupling plate in a speedy manner.
Important!
On hot pipes, the automatic WI tool can be damaged due to extended heat exposure. The steps for smoothing the
pipe have to be carried out in a speedy manner. When the heat exposure becomes to long, the automatic WI tool
sometimes begins to make a knocking sound during the forward stroke. In order to avoid damages, pull the setting
lever.
Important!
The electric WI tool is not intended for the removal of scale. It does not have the necessary hardness for this task and
would become unusable very fast. If the pipe has a scale layer, use a triangular scraper to break the scale layer and
remove it with a car body file afterwards.
Important!
If the setting lever is pushed down towards the pipe too fast, the automatic WI tool can become jammed and start
moving on the points of support. This has to be avoided.
• If the automatic WI tool becomes jammed, switch the cordless screwdriver off and move the setting lever into the
idle position. Switch the cordless screwdriver on again and slowly push the setting lever down in the direction of the
pipe.
• If it is not possible to move the setting lever to the idle position with great force, loosen the tensioning screw, pull the
setting lever back and tighten the tensioning screw again.
