6.4.PTO---SHAFT
IMPORTANT!
If the tractor has a
PTO---brake (for example
Ford), you have to use an
overrunning clutch. Shaft
recommendations:

6.4.1.CUTTING THE PTO SHAFT TO
THE CORRECT LENGHT
If the PTO shaft is too long
it might bind when the
three point hitch is lifted
up. Damage might be
caused to the bearings of
the chipper or to the PTO
of the tractor. If the PTO
shaft is too long it must be
cut. Both PTO halves must
be shortened by equal
amounts.
CAUTION!
1. Mount the chipper on the three---point hitch
of the tractor.
2. Cut the engine and remove the keys. Lower
the chipper on a firm and level surface.
3. Check that the splined shafts of the tractor
and chipper are on the same level.
4. Connect one shaft half to the chipper PTO
and the other half to the tractor PTO. Put the
PTO halves side by side so that one shaft
end is 1” from the PTO---end of the chipper.
Mark the length required. The tubes must be
so short that they cannot reach the bottom in
any chipper position. Cut the plastic tube.
Refer to fig. 6.---7.

5. Cut a profile tube piece of similar length as
the plastic tube piece. Shorten the other PTO
shaft similarly. Finish by filing the sharp
edges. See fig. 8.--- 9.
