MPC-NET2
INTRODUCTION
The Faraday MPC-NET2 network is a way to link MPC-6000 or MPC-7000 Fire Alarm Control units, RND-2 Remote
Network Displays and printers together to form a network. MPC-6000 and MPC-7000 Firmware version 3.0 or higher
is required to be running on each panel. A total of 99 Network Interface Boards (NIBs) can be connected on a
network.
INSTALLATION
Network Wiring
Network wire is to be UL listed Category 5 or better cable, rated for the type of installation. The network is wired from
node to node in a daisy chained ring configuration for Style 7 operation. The network side of the NIB has 2 ports.
Port 1 (reverse direction) is an isolated port and port 2 (forward direction) is a non-isolated port. Port 2 of a NIB must
be wired to port 1 of the next NIB. The network signals are regenerated at each NIB allowing a maximum distance of
3000’ between NIBs when using Category 5 wire. The NIB must be mounted in the same room as the RS232 serial
device it is connecting to. All panel to NIB wiring is to be in conduit.
If the NIB is connected to a NIB in another building using Category 5 wire, each of those 2 NIBs requires an inline
12525-surge protector to meet National Electrical Code requirements.
Refer to the installation and wiring diagrams for more details.
Fiber Converters
It is possible to convert one or both of the network ports of an “A” version NIB to use fiber media instead of Category
5 wire with the use of optional fiber converters 12535 or 12536. Each converter converts one port of the NIB to fiber
media. There is a converter for single mode fiber and one for multimode fiber. The converters plug directly into
sockets onto the NIBs. Different media types can be mixed on the same NIB. A maximum of 2 media types can be
used per NIB.
The multimode converter 12535 is designed to use duplex 62.5/125
µ
m multi-mode fiber cable with ST connectors.
The single mode converter 12536 is designed to use duplex 9/125
µ
m single mode fiber cable with SC connectors.
The maximum loss allowed between each NIB with fiber converters is 10dB.
NIB Versions
The NIB communicates with the attached device it is connected to through an RS232 port. The NIB must also be
powered by a MPC-6000, MPC-7000 or RND-2 for 24VDC.
There are three versions of NIBs.
1). 12523A is a NIB designed to connect to a serial port on an MPC-6000, MPC-7000 or RND-2.
2). 12526A is a NIB with an isolated RS232 port. It is designed to connect to printers and any computers on
the network.
3). 12603A is a NIB designed to connect to a serial port on an MPC-6000 or MPC-7000 and mount inside the
cabinet. It is electrically the same as a 12523A.
Note: Each piece of equipment connected to the network requires a NIB.
