‘SHOUTcast / ICEcast’ source type configuration
Both SHOUTCast and ICEcast are standard protocols used to transmit high quality compressed audio
through Internet and local networks.
Due to the compression mechanism and the transmission methods used, these protocols yield a very high
latency (several seconds). So, these protocols can’t be used for “live” messages. In the E41x decoders,
they are used only for the Background Music layer channels.
The configuration of this source type is very simple:

The main configurable parameter is the URL of the stream to decode.
Obtaining the URL for an Internet ICEcast radio
There are many public internet radios that are broadcasted using the ICEcast or SHOUTcast protocols.
The method to get the URLs for that radios depends on the publisher.
For instance, you can access to the web page
www.icecast.org
, enter in the stream directory, choose a
radio in one of the allowed formats, locate the link and, using the right mouse button, select “Copy link
address”, and then paste the obtained URL in the decoder configuration page, as shown in the following
images:
