C . Po sitive reversal switching to facto ry
actuato rs — The facto ry do o r lo ck switch
typically has 5 wires. Two wires always sho w
g ro und, and o ne always sho ws + 1 2 VDC .
The LO C K WIRE sho ws g ro und at rest and
during unlo ck, but sho ws + 1 2 VDC when the
do o r is lo cked. The UNLO C K WIRE sho ws
g ro und at rest and during lo ck, but sho ws
+ 1 2 VDC when the do o r is unlo cked. Many
G M trucks, Fo rds, and C hryslers use this
system. See fig. 1 8 .
D. Sing le wire, po larity switching — The facto ry
do o r lo ck switch uses a sing le wire to co ntro l
the do o r lo ck and unlo ck o peratio n. The
sing le LO C K/ UNLO C K WIRE sho ws g ro und
when the do o rs lo ck, and + 1 2 VDC when
they unlo ck. This is fo und o n mo st Mercedes
Benz and o n so me o ther Euro pean cars.

Sing le wire, po sitive shunt switching — This
system uses a sing le wire to activate the do o r
lo cks. Applying + 1 2 VDC o n the LO C K/
UNLO C K WIRE causes the do o rs to unlo ck,
and remo ving the + 1 2 VDC (no t applying
g ro und) causes the do o rs to lo ck. Fo und o n
so me Fo rd Pro bes. See fig. 2 0 .

Sing le wire, neg ative shunt switching — This
system uses a sing le wire to activate the do o r
lo cks. Applying g ro und o n the LO C K/
UNLO C K WIRE causes the do o rs to unlo ck,
and remo ving the g ro und (no t applying
+ 1 2 VDC ) causes the do o rs to lo ck. Fo und
o n so me Mazdas and Nissans. See fig. 2 1 .
G . Aftermarket do o r lo ck actuato rs — If the
vehicle do es no t have po wer do o r lo cks,
install aftermarket actuato rs acco rding to the
supplier’ s instructio ns. (If the vehicle has
po wer do o r lo cks o n all do o rs except the
driver’ s do o r, install o ne aftermarket
actuato r o n the driver’ s do o r. Includes so me
Vo lvo s, SAABs, and asso rted Japanese
mo dels.) See fig. 2 2 .

To install the included patented dual- stag e
electro mag netic sho ck senso r:
A. C able -tie the senso r securely to at least two
po ints under the dash. Do no t screw it to
metal. Mo unt so yo u can reach the
adjustment po ds. (NO TE — The sho ck
senso r is o mni- directio nal. It can be
mo unted at any ang le.)
