Cleaning the ink cartridge jet plate
Inkjets may clog when used in low humidity or when unused for a long
period of time. Typical symptoms of clogged inkjets include skipped or
broken lines or uneven printing.
When inkjets are clogged, first try priming the unit to remove dry ink
from the cartridge (see p. 39).
If repeated priming doesn't unclog the inkjets, follow the cleaning
procedure below. When cleaning does not restore print quality, the
cartridge may be worn and should be replaced.
To clean the ink cartridge jet plate:
1. Select Access Cartridges in the printer's software control panel to move
the carrier away from the service station (or simultaneously press the
and
buttons on the front panel).
2. Raise the printer's cover.
3. Remove the ink cartridge from the printer by gently pulling the top of the
cartridge toward you to unlatch it. Lift it up, out of the carrier.
4. Press lightly against the jets with a lint-free, cloth (not paper!)
moistened with distilled water. Gently blot away any excess ink.
Note
: Ink will appear on the cloth; this is normal.
