EMC DL3D 1500 and DL3D 3000 Administrator’s Guide

Configuring and Managing Virtual Tape Libraries

• Scratch - Selecting this option will change the cartridge access

type to Scratch. Data on the virtual cartridge will be lost.

• Unknown - Selecting this option will return the cartridge to

the Unknown Pool with an Unknown Access. This option is
used to manually assign access and pool (cleaning or
application).

• Virtual - Selecting this option will change the cartridge access

type to Virtual.

5. Click Apply.

The access type of the cartridge is changed.

Managing physical actions on the media

The Physical Actions page allows you to import or export tape
cartridges to and from a physical library.

Note:

Physical actions can be configured only when the Path-to-Tape license

has been enabled.

To access the Media page, click Auto Archive on the PTT page. To
access the Physical Actions page, on the Media page, click Physical
Actions

. The Physical Actions page appears.

Importing media

The Import section imports offline and unknown media from a
physical library's storage slot into a virtual library. To import offline
or unknown media from a physical library into the virtual library
partition:

1. To reduce the number of tape cartridges displayed on the Import

page, enter a barcode that the system can use to filter the tape
cartridges. For example, entering LTO in the Barcode Filter edit
box displays tape cartridges with barcodes beginning with LTO.

2. Select the checkbox next to the media you want to import into the

virtual tape library.

3. Select the virtual tape library where you want the imported

media to be located.

4. Select the Import Behavior to be assigned to the selected media

when imported into the DL3D system. The available access rules
are Scratch, Virtual, or Direct.
