Needle Definition
The machine is supplied with EL x 705 needles.
This is an industrial type needle that ensures
proper stitch formation at high speeds.
The scarf (cut out groove on needle back) is
important because it allows the looper to come
near the needle to catch the thread and form a
stitch. EL x 705 needles are available in two
sizes - 80/12 and 90/14.
It is possible to use conventional sewing machine
needles - 130/705H - for special threads and
fabrics. Thread tensions may need to be
adjusted.
Common stitch problems can often be traced
directly to the needle. Elna recommends using
EL x 705 needles for best results.
1. Needle inserted incorrectly.
(Flat side should be to the back.)
2. Needle not pushed up high enough into
position.
3. Needle is dull or has burrs.
(Change needles frequently; even new
needles can have imperfections.)
Changing the Needle(s)
Switch off the machine. Turn the flywheel toward
you to raise the needle(s) to their highest
position. Lower the presser foot.
Hold the needle and using the Allen screwdriver,
turn the needle clamp screw counterclockwise to
loosen. Remove needle.
Insert new needle into the clamp with the flat
side to the back, pushing it up far as it will go.
Tighten the clamp screw firmly.
Note:
The left needle (A) will always be set
higher than the right needle (B).
