6.3.1 Cleaning of Transducers
Follow these steps to clean a transducer:
1)
Clean the transducer with a cloth soaked in a solution of soap and water, or a cleaning
solution. Do not immerse the transducer in the solution. Use only the following cleaning
solutions:

MIKROZID
Z
ETHANOL 70%
Z
SPORACIDIN
Z
CIDEX
When using a cleaning solution, follow the manufacturer
’
s directions carefully to avoid
damaging the transducer.

Wipe the transducer with a cloth damped with water.
3)
Wipe the transducer with a clean, dry cloth to remove any remaining moisture.
6.3.2 Cleaning of Fetal ECG Cable
The fetal ECG cables must never be immersed, soaked, or cleaned with harsh chemicals. The
recommended cleaning method of the cables is a cloth wipe using ordinary alcohol-free hand
soap or USP green soap tincture. After cleaning the cables, they should be wiped with water using
a clean damp cloth and then with a clean dry cloth.
Do not autoclave, Ethylene Oxide (EtO), or stem sterilize the fetal ECG cables.
6.4 Cleaning of Recorder
The recorder platen, thermal print head and paper sensing mechanism must be cleaned at least
once a year or when needed (when traces become faint).
To do this:
1)
Clean the recorder platen with a lint-free cloth and soap/ water solution.
2)
With the thermal array using a cotton swab moistened with 70% Isopropyl alcohol-based
solution.
3)
Check the paper sensing mechanism is free of dust.
6.5 Cleaning of Belt
Wash soiled belts with soap and water. The water temperature must not exceed 60
°
C.
6.6 Sterilization
To avoid extended damage to the equipment, sterilization is only recommended when stipulated
as necessary in the hospital maintenance schedule. Sterilization facilities should be cleaned first.
Use the following table to choose a sterilant.
