HEATING

Controlled combustion is the most efficient technique for wood heating because it enables you to
select the type of combustion you want for each given situation.  The wood will burn slowly if the
wood stove air intake control is adjusted to reduce the oxygen supply in the combustion
chamber to a minimum.  On the other hand, wood will burn quickly if the air control is adjusted to
admit a larger quantity of oxygen in the combustion chamber.  The air intake control on your
stove is very simple.  If you pull on it out completely towards you, it is fully open.  If you push on
it until it stops the combustion air is reduced to a minimum.

Your DROLET stove burnt between .954 kg\h and 2.556 kg\h. of wood during EPA testing. Real
operating conditions may give very different results than those obtained in the lab according to
the species of wood used, its moisture content, the size and density of the pieces, the length of
the chimney, altitude and outside temperature.

WARNINGS

  N

EVER OVERFIRE YOUR STOVE

.

I

F ANY PART OF THE STOVE STARTS TO GLOW RED

,

 OVER FIRING IS

HAPPENING

.

R

EADJUST THE AIR INTAKE CONTROL AT A LOWER SETTING

  T

HE INSTALLATION OF A LOG CRADLE IS NOT RECOMMENDED IN YOUR DROLET WOOD STOVE

  N

EVER PUT WOOD ABOVE THE FIREBRICK LINING OF THE FIREBOX

  N

EVER STORE WOOD WITHIN STOVE INSTALLATION CLEARANCES OR WITHIN THE SPACE REQUIRED FOR

CHARGING AND ASH REMOVAL

  D

O NOT BUILD THE FIRE TOO CLOSE TO THE GLASS

  B

URNING SOLID FUELS GENERATES CARBON MONOXIDE IN LOW CONCENTRATION

.

T

HIS GAS IS

EVACUATED IN THE FLUE SYSTEM

.

I

N HIGHER CONCENTRATIONS

,

CARBON MONOXIDE IS TOXIC AND MAY

CAUSE DEATH

.

T

O PREVENT THIS

,

ENSURE THAT YOUR FLUE SYSTEM IS GASTIGHT

  B

URN WOOD ONLY IN THIS STOVE

.

S

OME OTHER FUELS MAY BE HIGHLY VOLATILE

,

 WHICH MAY CAUSE

MORE EMBERS TO ENTER THE EXHAUST VENTING SYSTEM CAUSING A HAZARDOUS SITUATION

.

O

THER

FUELS TYPE

,

 SUCH AS CHARCOAL

,

CAN CREATE A HIGHER CONCENTRATION OF CARBON MONOXIDE

LEADING TO POTENTIAL POISONING

  M

AINTAIN PROPER VENTILATION

.

I

T IS IMPORTANT THAT ADEQUATE OXYGEN BE SUPPLIED TO THE FIRE

FOR PROPER COMBUSTION

.

D

URING THE WINTER SEASON

,

MAKE SURE THAT THE FRESH AIR INTAKE IS

FREE OF ANY ICE AS THIS WILL STARVE THE FIRE OF AIR AND PREVENT THE PROPER OPERATION OF THE

STOVE

  T

HE HEAT FLOWING THROUGH THE FLUE SYSTEM CREATE

S

A NEGATIVE PRESSURE IN THE ROOM

.

I

DRAWS AIR FROM THE INSIDE TO THE OUTSIDE

.

I

N THE SAME WAY

,

 OTHER APPLIANCES CAN ALSO

CREATE A BIGGER NEGATIVE PRESSURE

.

I

N THIS CASE

,

AS THE AIR NATURALLY FLOWS FROM HIGH

PRESSURE POINT TO LOW PRESSURE POINT

,

THE BIGGER NEGATIVE PRESSURE MAY DRAW THE SMOKE

FROM THE INSIDE OF THE STOVE INTO THE ROOM

.

T

HE STOVE CAN ALSO AFFECT OTHER VENTILATION

APPLIANCES
