Instructions for use
How the MAGIX works:
Excessive sunlight, fish excretions, food leftovers, and dead plant parts in the garden
pond lead to an increased growth of algae and microorganisms clouding the water.
Mechanical and biological filters are usually overtaxed by the number of unwanted
particles.
The HOBBY MAGIX biofilter is fitted with a UV clarifier and an algae magnet. When
using the HOBBY MAGIX in ponds with a normal fish stock density, your water will be
clean within a fortnight.
Using a pump, the pond water first flows through the algae magnet. Algae magnets
fight against blanket weed and destroy the thin cell structure of the algae by its ma-
gnetic field. To prevent that other more resistible algae types will be developed you
should use the algae magnet with interruption. We recommend to separate the algae
magnet after three week use for the same time by using a EHEIM connector tap.
Inside the filter system the pond water flows through the filter foam mat, whereby
coarse dirt is filtered out. The water then reaches the filter material put in underneath.
We recommend using HOBBY Aquaterra, a biological filter material for garden ponds,
providing purification bacteria an ideal colonisation area. (In case of a high degree
of pollution or great fish stock, we recommend using HOBBY Zeolith and Absorbex
micro-T). Finally, the pond water flows through the UV clarifier, thus being exposed
to UV-C radiation. The rays damage the DNA of the algae, bacteria, and germs and
render them harmless.
In the frost-free season, the UV clarifier should be switched on 24 hours a day. Fre-
quent switching on and off reduces the lamp life. However, when cleaning, the device
must be switched off as otherwise the lamp could overheat and become useless wit-
hout the cooling effect of the circulatory water.
There is no need to fear that the use of a UV clarifier turns your fish delicate in health.
On the contrary, fish in low-germ waters are clearly more energetic and resistant
to infections. Also, there is no need to fear that too many of the useful bacteria are
destroyed. UV clarifiers solely destroy free-floating bacteria, not bacteria in the pond
bed or the filter.
In case of excessive stocking or ponds not designed true to nature, additional filters or
a larger Powercleaer model may be necessary.
Installation
1. Place the HOBBY MAGIX in a horizontal position.
2. Loosen the fastening screw through which the electric cable is led through the lid,
and then unscrew the filter lid.
3. Unscrew the outer green tube connection and saw it to fit the size of the tube
used.
4. Unscrew the seal on the housing of the UV clarifier and insert the UV lamp.
5. Fix the transparent tube connection from the outside through the drilled hole in the
filter cell to the UV clarifier on the inside
(see Fig. B2)
. Also from the outside, screw
the green tube connection to the spray pipe to be inserted inside
(see Fig. 3).
6. Connect the pond pump to the appropriate tube with the antialgae magnet and
then via the green tube connection with the pond filter.
7. Finally, replace the seal on the housing of the UV clarifier and hand-tighten wit-
hout jamming, retighten the fastening screw, and close the lid of the pond filter.
8. Fix the tube coming from the pond pump to the green tube connection, using
hose clamps (not supplied), if necessary, and the water outlet tube to the transpa-
rent tube connection opposite.
9. When your pump is switched on and water flows through the filter, the UV clari-
fier can be operated by plugigng in the mains plug.
