With thick crowns, an extra wedge of trans-
parent material is laid palatally on the in-
cisal area – with or without an admixture of
enamel material (Fig. 4 T). With veneers,
the metal frame must first be masked with
opaque.
Neck material
Take the work to be veneered, or the insulat-
ed die, off the model, if necessary, for
layering. Apply the material parallel to the
shoulder or to the edge of the gum as shown
in the layering diagram (Figs 4–10). Draw it
up in the proximal area, as on the shade
guide tooth.
In all layers, moisten the instrument with a
touch of monomer.
Dentine material
Apply dentine material to the centre of the
crown and spread it out. Press it lightly onto
the neck area but do not displace the neck
material. Undercuts must be packed without
forming bubbles. In the incisal area the den-
tine is built up as with the original Biodent
layering (Figs 7–10).
Taper the dentine core off about 1 mm below
the incisal edge and bevel off proximally
and incisally to a crescent shape. This is the
stage at which the dentine core receives its
final form.
Fig. 10: Formation of the dentine core.
Blending according to Biodent shade:

Fig. 8: Biodent shades 21, 23, 31, 39, 41
Fig. 9: Blending for all other Biodent shades.
Enamel material
This is built up in the incisal area and tapered
off towards the neck over the dentine.
Take the ready-modelled crown or veneer,
with its die, off the model. Carefully remould,
or add more material to the edges and points
of contact. With veneers, cover the edges
with plastic to get a good marginal fit.
Protective varnish
Prevents penetration of the curing medium
into the plastic and produces dense, smooth
surfaces.
Do not use in cold curing.
Let the
work dry after modelling until the surface
looks matt. Then brush the varnish on. Leave
for about 3 minutes before curing, until the
surface is no longer tacky. The drying time
may be shortened by warming.
Protective varnish thinner: lf the protective
varnish thickens after a time, it can be made
less viscous again with a few drops of the
thinner (shake well).
Curing
Leave in the vacuum-cure water bath for at
least 15 minutes at 95 ° C; pressure: 6 bars.
Fig. 11
Do not exceed the curing temperature of
95 °C.
Cool off slowly, then grind and polish as
usual. Fine toothed, hard-metal burs are
very suitable for grinding because of the
greater hardness.
Extra Layers
lf, perhaps by an error in layering, the den-
tine shade looks too dark, reduce or rough-
en the labial surface, moisten with a little
monomer and overlay with enamel material.
The new material used for correction should
have the same consistency as that applied
before. Colouring features can now be
added or corrections made at the points of
contact. The transition from plastic to metal
should be masked with fresh material.
