4.3.1 Configuring
Host
Bandwidth Limit to 25 Mbps
In this section, the network will be configured to minimize packet loss. Networks
respond to congestion by dropping packets. The PC-over-IP processor responds to
dropped (lost) packets by reducing the amount of bandwidth it generates. In most
cases, the PC-over-IP processor will conceal the packet loss to be imperceptible to
the user. However, in some low-bandwidth or high network latency situations, it
might be preferable to eliminate congestion-based packet loss by limiting the
available bandwidth to each user. We limit each user’s peak bandwidth to 25 Mbps
(hard limit – firmware will not use more than 25 Mbps). In addition, we will set a
target of 20 Mbps (soft limit – rapidly decreased to 20 Mbps during network
congestion, more slowly lower than 20 Mbps), to ensure the available bandwidth is
shared fairly if other network traffic further constrains the link.
Note: For this example, it is assumed very little data is required from the Portal back
to the Host (i.e. USB keyboard and mouse data), and therefore the only the Host
bandwidth is limited. To be complete, the Portal bandwidth limit could also be
configured.

internet browser to open the Host IP address
