In order for devices to communicate end-to-end they must participate in the same VSAN. In this
sample configuration the VFC is bound to either the FCoE FIP MAC Address of the Converged
Network Adapter in the blade server or an actual interface that would be a connection from
the modular switch (in this case MXL) connecting the blade servers. The recommended
configuration for this is to bind to the FCoE FIP MAC address of the CNA.
However, as an easy setup step it is possible to bind a VFC to the physical interface or port-
channel in order to determine which FCoE FIP MAC addresses will present from the CNA’s.
These can be noted and then matched with the M1000e’s CMC

Special instructions concerning deployment with Intel x520 CNA
The Intel x520 CNA is one of the various choices for CNA’s that can be used with the Dell PowerEdge
Blade Servers. With the card installed it will necessary to insure that the ISCSI portion of the driver is
not installed. From the factory the ISCSI stack will not be installed so it would simply be a matter of
adding in the FCoE portion of the driver for storage use. If the ISCSI stack is installed the Intel CNA may
possibly have FCoE deployment problems. If it is installed it is necessary to uninstall the driver and
reinstall. During the reinstall uncheck the check box for ISCSI.
After insuring that the driver is installed properly some additional steps will be necessary on the switch
configuration. See the following figures and explanation for further details.
