System requirements
To deploy on a server in the VxFlex Ready Node environment, the following
prerequisites must be met:

For OS installation guidelines, refer to the operating system vendor's documentation,
taking into account the VxFlex Ready Node prerequisites listed in this section.

Configure the M.2 device on the BOSS as a RAID 1 device.
l
During OS installation, use Scaleio123 as the password for the user name root or
administrator. (Alternately, provide a password that meets the local security
criteria.)
l
In a 2-Layer installation, EMC supplies a VxFlex Ready Node image ISO.
Follow the wizard installation steps. The default password is Scaleio123. If
required, you can change the password by using the
passwd
command.
l
Install the OS on the BOSS device.
l
The VxFlex Ready Node server may ship with a factory-installed, customized ESXi
image for use with the VxFlex OS AMS solution. Before installing the OS on
systems that use the VxFlex OS plug-in, you must revert the ISO to a VMware-
based image that is compatible with the plug-in. For information, see
Revert the
AMS ESXi ISO Image to a native ESXi Image on page 27. In cases where the
image will be installed from scratch, continue to Map the ISO file on a VxFlex
Ready Node 14G server on page 30.
Driver support
Ensure that correct drivers are installed in your system.
The best source for supported storage drivers is the Dell customized ISO for ESXi 6.5
U1. If this cannot be used, consult the VMware support matrix for Dell products on the
VMware website.
For the Dell HBA 330 Mini controller, both the customized and the release versions of
ESXi 6.5 U1 have the minimum supported driver version.
Note
Before enabling DirectPath, ensure that the correct driver is installed.
Rebuild the M.2 cards as a RAID device
The BOSS device consists of two 120/240 GB M.2 expansion cards. Rebuild the M.2
cards as a RAID 1 device.
Procedure
1. Power on the node.
2. In the iDRAC Virtual KVM console, press F2 immediately after you see the
message
F2 = System Setup
during system start up.
3. On the System Setup Main Menu screen, select Device Settings
