Software Interface:
How to Control the
Camera

3.1 Overview

All camera features can be controlled through the serial interface. The camera can also be
used without the serial interface after it has been set up correctly. Functions available
include:

• Controlling basic camera functions such as gain and sync signal source
• Camera

calibration

• Measuring internal temperature and voltages
• Capturing

video

• Generating a test pattern for debugging

The serial interface uses a simple ASCII-based protocol. The complete protocol is
described in Appendix C, Communications Protocol.

Online Help

For quick help, the camera can return all available commands and parameters through
the serial interface. To generate this list, send the command

to the camera.

Retrieving Camera Settings

To read current camera settings, send the command

gcp

. For an explanation of the

camera parameter screen, see section C6 Camera Parameter Screen on page 64.

This chapter details the

most commonly used

commands. See

Appendix C for the

complete syntax and

command reference for

the camera’s serial
