Take out the valve stem seal.
•
Pull out the intake and exhaust valves.
•
Remove the valve guides from the
combustion room side of cylinder
head by means of a special tool.
2) Inspection and measurement of cylinder
head
Inspection of cracks and damage
•
Eliminate the carbon residue and gasket piece from the cylinder head lower face thoroughly.
Then be careful for the valve seat not to be damaged.
•
For cracks or damages to search difficult may be inspected by a hydraulic test or a magnetic
powder test. (Hydraulic test is same as for cylinder block.)
Distortion of cylinder head bottom
face
1) Distortion at the lower face
•
Measure the amount of distortion
using a straight edge and a feeler
gauge at six positions as shown in
the right figure.
•
If the measured value exceeds the
standard value, retrace the head
with grinding paper of fine grain
size to correct such defects.
•
If the measured value exceeds the
maximum allowable limit, replace
the cylinder head.
